Plenary sessions during the mornings covered some of the most important advances, of interest to the whole plasma research community. Despite the limited edge densities the Greenwald density could be surpassed by a factor of three with pellet refuelling from the low magnetic-field side. Pires and R. This suggests that the formation of a current sheet and the subsequent reconnection process cannot be decoupled, as is commonly assumed. Thanks to his generosity and hard work, conference participants were fortunate in having opportunities to gather for several memorable social events. This volume is published under copyright of the European Physical Society.
We wish to inform authors that the transfer of the copyright to the EPS should not prevent an author from publishing an article in a journal quoting the original first publication or the use to use the same abstract for another conference. The H-mode operational window is determined by local edge-barrier parameters and their gradients, respectively. As chair of the Programme Committee, Marta Fajardo reports that she had the honour and pleasure of working with an exceptional team of scientists, in charge of selecting the most promising communications and giving a balanced account of current research in plasma physics. The presence of so many young researchers presenting their work with enthusiasm was invigorating—a quarter of the participants were PhD students, many at their first major conference.
We were aided in our selection by the input of the whole plasma community: several hundred proposals for invited and plenary talks were submitted from across the world through an open forum, and these were augmented by welcome suggestions to the PC by the Plasma Physics Divisions of the American Physical Society and of the Association of Asia-Pacific Physical Societies, and by other Divisions of EPS. The boundaries are represented by the L - H transition-temperature threshold, the ideal ballooning edge-pressure gradient limit, the upper temperature limit for type-III ELMs and an upper H-mode barrier density limitation. We would like to thank Boudewijn van Milligen CIEMAT, Spain for his unwavering support during the submission, compilation, and evaluation of the abstracts of contributed and invited papers, together with online proceedings archiving. The presence of so many young researchers presenting their work with enthusiasm was invigorating—a quarter of the participants were PhD students, many at their first major conference. The observed trends can be used for validation of plasma-chemistry models.

Whereas in the SP model reconnection was predicted to be slow, a major implication of this new paradigm is that reconnection in fluid systems is fast i. Close to the Greenwald limit this H - L transition cannot be avoided at any power flux across the separatrix and - at high external neutral gas fluxes - confinement compared with ITER HP scaling degrades 22nd European Physical Society Conference on Controlled Fusion and Plasma Physics book before the back transition.
The H-mode operational window is determined by local edge-barrier parameters and their gradients, respectively. This raises some issues that can't unfortunately be solved without interfering with user's preferences for the browser.
Threshold ionisation molecular beam mass spectrometry is used to measure absolute densities of CO, O 2, O and O 3 species. This volume is published under copyright of the European Physical Society. The attainable average densities depend then on the internal particle sources and the core transport and can exceed the empirical Greenwald density.
Despite the limited edge densities the Greenwald density could be surpassed by a factor of three with pellet refuelling from the low magnetic-field side.
The length of the contributed papers has been limited to 4 pages. We hope that, as so often happens at our yearly gathering, many new international collaborations were born in the hallways of the conference centre.
Ion mass spectrometry have been used to measure positive and negative ions, where only positive ions have been detected. Follow the links to the table of contents or to the index if you wish to find a contribution by paper or by author.
And finally, on behalf of the PC and the EPS Plasma Physics Division, we would like to thank all the participants, whose work made possible the success of this conference. Higher densities are achievable in H-mode compared with low-field side injection and diminished convective losses avoid confinement degradation up to the Greenwald density.
Carlos III de Madrid, Spain, and Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands for his study of a key aspect of toroidal plasma stability, the effects of non-axisymmetric fields on peeling-ballooning stability.
The observed trends can be used for validation of plasma-chemistry models. We briefly discuss the role played by the plasmoid instability in selected applications, and describe some of the outstanding challenges that remain at the frontier of this subject.
Taken together, we hope that these resources convey the current state-of-the-art in our dynamic field. Some files contain figures with poor definition, which also don't print reasonably. Two tables of contents are available on the CD and in the booklet: one by session, the other by topic.
The capacitively coupled plasma source is the predecessor of the known COST reference jet with identical performance and it is operated in a diffuse mode with gas temperature close to the room temperature.
This paper provides an introductory-level overview of the recent developments in reconnection theory and simulations that led to this 22nd European Physical Society Conference on Controlled Fusion and Plasma Physics book new framework. Only 10 papers that theoretically met all requirements and that could be correctly viewed in Acrobat 4.
The high O density could indicate that the vibrational excitation of CO 2 is ineffective in this plasma and gas mixture, because O would otherwise react quickly with vibrationally excited CO 2 v to form CO and O 2, the low energy efficiency is in agreement with the possibly low vibrational excitation.
Over the last few years, the theoretical understanding of magnetic reconnection in large-scale fluid systems has undergone a major paradigm shift.
Their confinement does not improve with increasing density and neutral gas fluxes and may even slightly degrade. The search engine available in the PDF version of the CD offers the possibility to search in any frame capable and Java-enabled web browser, like any version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape released in the last 3 or 4 years.
Submission procedure This conference was the third time that the ELISE conference submission program was used for collecting the contributed papers.
